Brief biography

Cristóbal is a Scientific Researcher covering multidisciplinary aspects of Acoustic, Vibration and Control science, R&D Project Manager, European Proposal's writer and European Commission Expert Evaluator.

Cristóbal graduated in Physics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2002 and received his D.E.A. in Electronic (Master’s degree) from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie and the Ecole Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielle de la ville de Paris (ESPCI) for a thesis on the optimisation of the performance of Multi–Wire Chamber (Gamma Camera) for imaging applications in nuclear medicine.

In 2007 he received the Ph.D. degree in Sound and Vibration from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) at the University of Southampton (UK). From 2008 to June 2009 he was a post-doc researcher at the ISVR sponsored by the EU-FP6 under the European Doctorate in Sound and Vibration Studies (EDSVS).

From June 2009 to October 2010 he was an Associate Academic Staff - Experience Researcher at Production Engineering, Machine Design and Automation (PMA) Section – Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL) – Belgium sponsored by the EU-FP6 under the Smart Structures project.

In November 2010, he joined the Tire Vehicle Mechanics Group - Goodyear Innovation Center* Luxembourg (GIC*L) as Staff Engineer.

In November 2013, he is an Experienced Researcher at the El Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), or The Spanish National Research Council, Madrid.

Since May 2017, I am a Scientific Researcher at "Centro de Astrobiología", CSIC-INTA - National Instituteof Aerospace Technology. At the Astrophysics Department I am involved in Experimental simulations in the InterStellar Astrochemistry Chamber (ISAC) ultra-high vacuum (UHV) chamber to study the photodesorption of analogous astrophysic ices. More precisely with the automation and calibration of the data acquisition systems (FTIR, TPD, UV, QMS) along with processing of the data to optimise the time of the experiments and the analysis of the results obtained. ISAC is an ultra high vacuum (UHV) chamber, with base pressure down to P = 2.5 E−11 mbar, where an ice layer made by deposition of a gas mixture onto a cold finger at 8 K, achieved by means of a closed-cycle helium cryostat, can be irradiated with VUV photons. Samples can be heated in a controlled way from 10 K to room temperature. The evolution of the solid sample is monitored by in situ transmittance FTIR and Raman spectroscopy while the volatile species are monitored by QMS.

I am currently involved in the Measurements of the thermal conductivity and calorimetry of frozen salt solutions to support the JUpiter ICy moonsExplorer (JUICE) (ESA) and Europa Clipper (NASA) missions. I am also working in the estimation of the porosity in ice of astrophysical interest by means of ultrasonic techniques.

I do have a wide lab experience in general measurement instrumentation and signal processing, noise and vibration measurements and analysis (LMS, LMS Test.Lab, B&K Pulse) and Vehicle NVH testing (laboratory and test track measurements).
